Butterflies on St Maarten

A young British couple sailed across the Atlantic in the early 1990s and landed on the island of of St. Maarten in the Caribbean.

And they never went back.

Looking around for an idea how they might earn a living on their paradise island they decided to build a Butterfly farm.

It had been 34 years since the last hurricane hit the island so they thought they were safe.

But along came climate change.

Since then their Butterfly farm has suffered six hurricanes and four wiped out the farm.

It says something for their resilience and determination that they are still operating having rebuilt it completley.

Today it is the major tourist attraction on the island and we visited it this morning.
