The Kiltwalk

I'm the one with the Tea Cozy on my Heid

It's Saturday night and I've just planned out the remaining Blipfoto stories between now and Kiltwalk Day. I've got themes in my head, but as yet not titles for articles from Cat Harvey & Ewen Cameron and Lorraine Kelly along with stories about the Wee Kiltwalk Bears and the Susan Donn Essential Medical Kit, however I've also decided to do two short stories about last year's Kiltwalk.

Now before we go any further, can we just check something you just said there Ian "Did you just say 'short', do you do short?"

Well to be honest I was going to do the Susan survival guide tonight, which would have been lengthy, but after last night's chapter from War & Peace I decided to change tact and keep it short and sweet as tonight the 'photie' definitely steals the show.

So let me introduced you to "The Tea Cozy" aka Ronnie McKeitch who walked last year's Kiltwalk with his wife Linda and brother Allan, who is walking with him in the picture (Linda had already left them for dust).

Ronnie, I would like to think, has become a friend of mine over the last year, which is a strange thing to say when I tell you that I've only met him three times and never spoken to him outside of these occasions, so how can I lay claim to the 'friendship' tag? Let me explain.

Ronnie and I started to frequent the same 'Scottish' Twitterati circle, which was a group of dry witted, sometimes caustic Scot's who liked nothing better than to have a 'rammy' on Twitter.

"Sad gits" you cry and you're probably right. I then started to chat to Ronnie's wife Linda and found out two things about them. Linda is a manic fitness freak, while Ronnie's just laid back and will do anything for a laugh, or perhaps to "keep the peace" with Linda.

So I managed to 'Twitter' Linda into taking part in The Kiltwalk one Friday evening, or "Vodka time" as she calls it and at the point she said yes, I knew it was only a matter of time before the big man signed up too and better still, they also brought along Ronnie's brother Allan.

So Kiltwalk Day 2011 was the first time I met up with Ronnie and that's the second reason I lay claim to the 'friend' comment, because as those of you who are taking part in The Kiltwalk for the first time are about to learn, when you meet someone on The Kiltwalk and spend a few hours walking with them, friendships are easily made.

I've since met up with Ronnie for a few beers on two other occasions and conversation is always easy and enjoyable and I'm sure I'll share a few beers with him after this year's event, because of course this year I'll know what he looks like, unlike last year when we met up at Hampden with 400 other Kiltwalkers.

Picture the scene, we both say we'll be wearing kilts, so that sort of narrows it down to like 'everyone', so while no one's looking I send Ronnie a wee tweet to say "Awrite big man, where are you and what do you look like" to which he said "I'm dead easy to spot . . . I'm the one with the Tea Cozy on my Heid" and as you can see from the picture, he was indeed easy to spot.

I can remember when we got to the end last year Ronnie said "that's me, I've done it, but never again" and guess what, he's signed as have Linda and Allan and he's rearing to go, but then, he's a Jags fan, so it's the only excitement he gets.

If you see The Big Tea Cozy, give him a shout cause he's a good lad.
