Robert Louis Stevenson cave

This afternoon I visited Robert Louis Stevenson cave to collect some mud for my “mud paintings” and afterwards sat on these rocks to reflect that once Stevenson himself in all likelihood would have spent time sitting there contemplating the river.

For during his summer holiday in Bridge of Allan the Darn Walk (see extra photos) was a favourite place for him and it is thought that this cave was the inspiration for Treasure Island.

I have not been down there for some time so today I was delighted to see that Stirling Council have placed a hand carved seat, long overdue in my estimation, to commemorate the site that inspired Treasure Island. It even has a hooked arm, a treasure chest, parrot skull and crossbones and carved into the seat.
