An Artist's Life

By MariB

From Italy..

In Italy, Santa Claus does not exist. Instead there is Befana. According to legend, the Magi asked directions from an old lady. As she was too busy with housework, she promised to follow later. And now, like a witch on a broomstick, she rides around the sky; seeking the baby Jesus and bringing presents to the children of each house...just in case it houses the holy child. To bad children, however, she leaves a lump of coal.
Next to my cloth Befana hangs a little wooden Pinocchio. He comes from Montepulcchiano and Befana was a find in Orvieto.

Saint Barbara is soooo big.....so much clay. :-/
