Guilin

A days travelling and we are back nearer sea level in Guilin.  This area is famous for it's landscape scenery and a taste off this is shown in my panorama shot taken from the roof bar of our hotel which shows the famous Elephant rock.  However the weather forecast for the next few days is not good so we shall see.

We were recommended a restaurant by our guide today and we went off armed with a piece of paper on which he had written the name and address in Chinese characters.

Despite asking several people we were unable to track down this elusive place.  We ended back at our hotel and we were so hot and tired that we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant.   What a mistake.  The restaurant advertised itself as a steak specialist.  Although steak wasn't exactly what we had in mind it was all that was on offer (advertised as 'Mutant').

I can honestly say that it is the worst steak I have ever eaten.  Tough as old boots and completely tasteless.  It was accompanied by ice cold red wine and would have had spaghetti if we hadn't asked for french fries instead.

OK,  I know,  why eat steak in China? but it was a 4* hotel restaurant and all that was on offer.  Not even any chinese food available.

My extra is identical to Jane's main blip
