The road to Wigtown

Well, here we are in Wigtown for their annual Book Festival.
It’s our first visit.

Wigtown is one of Scotland’s “forgotten towns” as far as tourism goes hence the decision nearly 20 years ago by the Scottish Tourist Board to re-invent it by making it the equivalent of the Hay Book Festival.

If books could revive a fading market town on the Welsh Borders then surely books could do the same for Wigtown?

We are about to find out.

The remoteness is a real stumbling block. It took us over three hours from central Scotland to get here.

While in Hay you could be in London in two hours.
