Slipstream

At Heathrow Terminal 2 today, to meet Tony on his return from Copenhagen. This sculpture’s twisting aluminium form is inspired by the world of aviation and captures the imagined flight path of a small stunt plane. It is the longest piece of permanent art and the largest privately funded sculpture in Europe: over 70 metres (230 ft) long and weighing 77 tonnes. I hope at least a few of the people busily coming and going today took a moment to stop and marvel at this wonderful combination of design and engineering.
