Contemplating Warhol
Portland Art Museum.
What stole the show for me was the work of Vik Muniz, the Brazilian artist who creates portraits in sugar, in recycled materials, in chocolate.... Here he took Monet's Rouen Cathedral and reproduced it as a collage of thousands of pieces of art brochures, magazines, and catalogs which he then photographed.
A question we are contemplating: how does ritual, art, ritual art--contribute to political change? What is the place of art-making in the work of social justice? in healing the hearts of those who fear for the planet?
