Art, sheep and politics

Switched on the radio this morning to hear international Cuban artist Tania Brug talking about her work as an artist and  political activist.

“ If you don’t do anything about it then you are part of the problem.”

Very true. She has already been in prison for her activism.

But what, you may well ask, has Tania Bruguera and sheep got in common?

Well,  while an exchange student to the School of the Art institute in Chicago I met Tania who was already an established artist. She was in the process of preparing a performance piece for the international Korean Bi-annual.
And she needed a recording of sheep.

Now in the middle of Chicago that is not easy to find.

“No problem,” I said. “I’m going home to Wales for Christmas and will bring you back an audio of sheep from the farm.”

I did.

And Tania used it in her performance.
