Emergency Ward 10

My New Year resolution of being patient and kind to His Lordship is being tested to the limit. It is difficult enough to accept one's own snottering, snivelling and staccato sneezing engendered by a head cold without sharing space after recovery with a partner in the throes of the same and holding nothing back.

I ran back and forth through a miasma of virus yesterday delivering hot drinks, paracetamol, linctus and fresh fruit to an ailing Lordship when he took to his bed. I brought him newspapers but fell short of a comic and a colouring book as his mother would have done. There is no point in encouraging bed blocking.

Whereas His Lordship enjoys caring for sick people and seems in his element if he thinks I may be a tiny bit off colour, I freely admit not having that nursing gene. I don't like people taking to bed without terrible reason. I can do a day of nursing, maybe stretched to 2 days, but after that, I just want them out of bed and up and about. Nursing was never a profession for me, but I am trying very hard to be sympathetic and nurturing. It is very exhausting.
