Scrapbook Saturday/Silly Saturday: Splash!!

A rep from Olympus was hosting an Olympus drop-in at our local camera shop today. Naturally I went along.

He was showing us how to use the "Pro-Capture" mode on the EM1 v2 to take photos of splashes without using flash. Naturally a very short exposure is needed, but in addition to that the camera can be set to take 60 frames per second (in RAW) using the electronic shutter - and what's more it takes a rolling set of 14 frames when you half press the shutter, saving the latest set as you fully depress it. This makes it (a little!) easier not to miss the critical moment...

Of course, I came home and tried it myself. I don't (yet) have lights as bright as he was using, so I had to use a higher ISO, and 1/1000 sec instead of 1/2000 as he had done. Also I didn't have a suitable waterproof black background as he had used. However a white background can work OK too.

After about 2 hours of playing, these are my two best shots (main blip and extra - I can't decide which I like best). For the main blip I dropped a handful of wine gums into the glass; in the extra I used "M&M"s. The wine gums produced a bigger splash but I like the shower of M&Ms around the glass in the extra.

I'll tag it for my occasional personal "Scrapbook Saturday" challenge (see here), and I reckon it's daft enough to tag for Silly Saturday too, hosted by admirer..

I think I'll try again sometime with brighter lights. In the meantime I have several slightly soggy wine gums & M&Ms to dispose of...that will be a great hardship...!  ;-))
