Well here I am 24 hours after my cataract operation.
All those friends who told me it would be a ' walk in the park' and I would not feel anything were being very economical with the truth.
I certainly felt the surgeon drllling into my eyeball. OK it was not painful but very uncomfortable.
The good news is that it was done at the Golden Jubilee hospital in Glasgow, a NHS state of the art facility thanks to Arab money.
It was built by them but never used for private medicine and it has a four star hotel attached so it's unlike any ordinary hospital .
It was later taken over by the NHS and is used today for routine surgery and tests.

Also the hours of waiting beforehand took on the air of a party . All the stuff I had taken along to read remain unread.

After all this is Glasgow- and Glaswegians never miss an opportunity to party.
