Watching Wallace in the rain

What do you do with visitors when it starts to rain and all plans for the day have to be changed?

We are lucky because we have the Wallace Monument, three miles away, a sure-fire favourite with little ones and our 7-year-old relative loved the narrow, twisting staircase, battles, swords and role-play.

He left tonight for the journey back home armed with a sword though there was a question mark over whether he would be allowed on the aeroplane with it.

A bigger problem than the weather or the sword was Easyjet unexpectedly cancelling their flight home.

Only by chance did my niece check her iPhone over lunch to discover that their early evening flight to Bristol had been cancelled and they were offered instead a refund .

This was impossible because of work commitments tomorrow morning so they have gone by train to Newcastle and hope to pick up a flight there- unless that gets cancelled at the last moment too.

Seems EasyJet is known for this.

PS. Just got a text from them saying they were on standby and another a few minutes later saying they had managed to get a seat- and the sword was through security OK but another child had his water pistols confiscated.
