Inchmahome Priory

I have started a bucket list of “hidden gems” in Scotland.

So today we went on a small boat to Inchmahome Island on the lake of Mentieth, in the Trossachs.

This is less than half an hour from our home and it’s the kind of place visitors, especially foreign ones, love.

In fact on the boat trip we noticed that most of the people were from abroad.

Founded in 1238 this isolated monastery is still relatively intact. (extra photo)

The island also contains three 500 year old sweet chestnut trees (see extra photo).

Inchmahome priory is well worth a visit – I just wish I had discovered it years ago.
