Camp Kiwanee memories

This afternoon, Gregory, Cheri and I drove to Camp Kiwanee, close by, in the next town. It was the first time Cheri had been back since 1971. All the other times she's been in the area it just hasn't been possible to visit. It's no longer an overnight camp, but most of the buildings and cabins are there in various stages of repair. It's now owned by the Town of Hanson,  used for recreation, summer day camp activities and functions. The large lodge with attached dining hall and stage can be rented for weddings and other celebrations. Greg took this shot of us looking out over what used to be perfectly manicured cranberry bogs, a spot we all called The Bluffs. Perhaps some adult beverages just might have been consumed there in the evenings...and it was always a good place to get away from campers and directors. We were swept back in the 70s instantly again, old friends with so many shared stories.

For the Record,
Today came in hot and a bit less humid. We also took a trip to the ocean with our visiting and landlocked Vermonter. In 1970, 17 year old Cheri came to work at Kiwanee from Wisconsin. She had never seen the ocean, that was quickly remedied.

All hands spent a wonderful day together with lobster salad for dinner. The dinner table discussion centered around Cheri's bees instead of 45.
