Arnish Light

A wet, grey day, not conducive to good photos! This is the light at Stornoway Harbour, built by Alan Stevenson, of the remarkable lighthouse-building family, in 1852-53. It was their first prefabricated lighthouse, built of iron, lined with wood. This was also the family of Robert Louis Stevenson, who was intended for the family business and trained as an engineer before giving it up and concentrating on writing.
