River Esk in full spate.

Today we took a trip to Ravenglass with the intention of entering Eskdale aboard 'Ratty' (Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway).
Day started off wet but as we entered Ravenglass we were greeted with blue skies and sunshine which confirmed our Ratty trip.
At Dalegarth, the final station within Eskdale, we went in search of waterfalls but several problems arose.
1. The signposting was not clear, leaving us to guess the track at times.
2. The river was swollen with the recent rainwater  and certain indicators had disappeared under water.
3. Some of the tracks had deteriorated to become almost impossible for someone with slight mobility problems (old age) to proceed.
4. With limited time before we had to return to the train, the slow progress created by 3 meant we had to turn back before we reached our goal.

This cascade was as high upriver as we reached. It may have been intended to be a waterfall but today was more a cascade than a fall.

Extra 1. shows Ratty being hauled by 'River Mite'

Extra 2. hows the sunset at Ravensglass.
