Masked yoga

Our yoga class resumes next week so I thought I had better get in a bit of practice.

But I needed a photo for mono Monday, theme classic.

Fortunately in the bedroom there happened to be a Venetian mask bought in Venice a few months ago.

Mask wearing goes back to medieval times,
according to Ca’Macana, one of the oldest mask making workshops in Venice.

The first written account of masks being worn dates back to 2 May 1268.

They were a symbol of freedom, a way to get rid of social rules and to conceal the masked person’s identity and social status, not only during Carnival, but also in the everyday life.

Today they are one of the most popular popular tourist souvenirs.

Thanks to Skeena for the challenge.
