Skating with Mom

Dear Diary,

These photographs, taken in 1962, were in our back yard.  We didn't have a pond but this may be what I call a "pop-up pond".  When it rains heavily in the winter after the ground freezes and then the temperatures drop you may find a skating rink in your yard!  After the recent rains and freeze here you saw lots of examples of this.  No fears of falling through the ice and drowning!

That hideous hat I am wearing was all the rage in 1962, they called them "wig hats".  Mom has one on too but hers looks a lot better than mine, I guess it is the color.  Jackie Kennedy wore pill box hats that became quite popular in the early 1960's and I did like them but these...I cringe looking at it today!

I still have those ice skates, they are hanging in the barn right now.  They no longer fit of course but I doubt I will be skating on any of our pop-up ponds now anyway.  Another cringe worthy sight for sure!  I would need more than a hockey stick to hold me up!  I pillow strapped to my bottom would be needed!
