Lifter

The sculpture "Lifter" was mentioned in a recent blip. Lifter is an interactive sculpture that was commissioned for the new Seattle Fire Department fire station 37.

The piece was created by Portland Oregon sculptor Pete Beeman in 2010.

There is a large chrome crank at the base of the sculpture that causes the metal arms at the top to move up and down.

The piece is quite well engineered, in that it take very LITTLE effort to turn the crank.

Turn the crank rapidly and let go, and the crank continues to spin for perhaps as many as a half dozen rotations before coming to a stop.
