MonoMonday- Soup Kitchens

While looking for a photo for mono Monday using  ‘words’ I came across this photo in our local library.

“The first British Soup Kitchens were set up in London in the 1790s by Patrick Colquhoun from Dumbarton.

He aimed to provide temporary relief for  the poor and educate them in making cheap nutritious soup.

The Aberdeen Soup Kitchen was established in 1800 and it moved to this building in Loch Street in 1894.

It closed in the 1990s when it was thought no longer necessary.”

Sadly, Soup Kitchens have been replaced  today by Food Banks.
