Summer n Scotland

We look in amazement at the media images of crowded beaches and heat wave throughout Europe while we in Scotland are enjoying a pleasant 20-24C.

So, it’s another photo of the Allan Water River, a popular picnic spot for folk from outwith the area who come here to enjoy the scenery and fish suppers from the AllanWater café in Bridge of Allan.

Have you noticed how it has become trendy in some eateries to serve food in enamel dishes?
Tonight we had a meal out  and the rhubarb crumble- see extra photo- arrived in enamel bowls.

To those of us of an older generation these enamel bowls mean bad news.
M said it reminded him of the time he was in hospital as a four year old having his tonsils out- and it reminded me of the tin mugs we always had in the children’s sanatorium I was in as a child.

Our waitress came from Romania and she said these enamel bowls are still used daily in her country.
Strange how things as simple as a bowl can stir past memories.
