Launch Pad

More signs that summer is on the wane as Barnardia japonica (aka Scilla japonica & Scilla scilloides) makes it's annual appearance.  The first flowers open when it's around six inches tall, the stem lengthening by a few inches as all the buds open.  I've had it growing outside for over twenty years but it does not self sow like the snowflakes (pictured recently) do.

Jamie has a weekend at an outdoor activity centre with a young carers group so we are free agents.  Jacinta still tired after her treatment so we'll not be going far.  I cooked plaice for tea.  My Nanna used to cook it for me when I was a teenager .... hardly ever had it since .... with a home-made breadcrumb, herb and cheese topping it was delicious.
