for Halloween

So the pumpkin-carving party was Sat BUT I figured I would share for Halloween!
It was my first ‘carving’ party and it was great fun - an afternoon picnic barbecue with about 100 friends (yes, 100 ! including about a dozen children). I learned the tools of the trade (a large clam shell works great to clean out the seeds & inside gunk!), and the hosts had wheelbarrows to collect the “gunk” and add it to their garden’s compost pile (very well planned).
Stencils are fabulous. I made a ‘witch ghost’ complete with broom ( & not a lot of cuts, haha). And lesson: cut out the smallest pieces first because you still have support of a fuller pumpkin shell.
The best part was the lighting (with real candles) - 76 different unusual pumpkins but including a true old fashioned jack-o-lantern!
