Langtang Village - A Harsh Beauty.
Today we continued to Langtang Village.
On April 25th 2015 a 7.8 richter earthquake struck Nepal, during the last 3-4 weeks I've been here, both with work and now trekking I've caught something of the ongoing tremors in peoples lives.
and then this... Langtang Village as was is now covered by what used to be mountain, it looks just like a boulder field (in foreground here). 243 people perished, many bodies remain under the rubble, mostly villagers but also guides/porters and trekkers like ourselves. It was one of the reminders as we climb into the Himalaya, only a few miles from the border with Tibet/China that this is a harsh place to live, and not just due to the thinnest of the air.
The village now higher up has had much rebuilding and seems to be thriving again as trekking is returning at a reasonable level - these are resilient people.
A harsh kind of beauty.
