A time for everything

Cultural day!

Tuesday
We took the car in this morning, as we’re returning home this evening. It was another beautiful day, so it seemed a shame to spend it inside, but I really wanted to visit the Chicago Art Institute, one of the top art museums in the country, and particularly noted for its Impressionism collection, including a whole room dedicated to Monet, one of my favourite artists. It doesn’t open until 10.30, so we had time for a walk along the lake front, down to the Planetarium, the Aquarium and the Field Museum of Natural History, from where you enjoy a wonderful view over the city and the lake. We spent the rest of the day at the museum, enjoying lunch from their cafe out in one of the courtyards. The top scene in my collage is the view from the Field Museum. Below, at the left is the Field Museum, and to the right the Shedd Acquarium. The bottom row, left to right shows the Art Instutue, The Child’s Bath by Mary Cassatt, Two Sisters (on the Terrace) by Renoir, and a small section of Marc Chagall’s America Window. We had a good journey home, arriving about 11 pm, having “lost” an hour on the way back!
