Marjorie's ramblings

Phone box fun

After a slow start I headed for Waterloo Bridge and the splendid views of the city both east and west.

The first talk I attended was a conversation between Andrew Moisey and Anne Wagner. She is an art historian, critic and teacher and proved to be a supportive and encouraging interviewer.

Andrew Moisey was talking about a body of work he collected over 7 years of being alongside a college fraternity. It’s chilling stuff and not for the faint hearted. The “boys will be boys” attitude of the past cannot be maintained when you see the behaviours documented. Sobering to see how many men in power were in fraternities. I think we have the equivalents but not as many.

I looked at more galleries, enjoying the quieter ones, bemused by the atmosphere of high art and wondering what it was like to be a VIP, talking apparently knowledgeably. At time the emperor’s new clothes come to mind.

There is some stunning work on show too.

i took the bus to Parliament Square. It was relatively quiet without a banner of placard in sight.

Returning, I first saw the wedding couple having their photo shoot in a red ‘phone box. They were doing a lot of poses, directed by the photographer. There was a second photographer plus a hair stylist.

Not far away I found the second photo shoot. I think it may have been an advert for the earphones because they had three different colours. I liked the red best. See my extras.

Back yo Photo London for a talk by Hannah Starkey. She photographs women in everyday situations, but her photographs are posed. She used to use actors but nowadays will approach women she sees in the street.

Hannah works for two years on a project and then produces 7 or 8 images. I’m intrigued to know how this makes her a living, but it would have sounded churlish to ask!

I was very late last night so you may have missed yesterday. Do have a look.

A very early night tonight before an early morning adventure!
