Mud painting to deep space

Some old friends turned up today for Open Studios. Naturally I inveigled them into doing mud paintings.

Then I whizzed one image through an app to see if the machine learning was better than the human hand. (It wasn’t).

The conversation got around to astrophotography for P is a keen amateur astronomer.

He whipped his smartphone out of his pocket and showed us images he had taken of deep space including one of the Horsehead Nebula, some 1,500 light years from the sun.

I was gobsmacked by the colour (see extra photo).
Until then I thought outer space was black and white.
