Whisky,coal and food

Just getting ready to go north for Hogmanay, well, up to Perth to stay with friends overnight.

Traditionally this is the biggest night of the years for Scots people though I think the tradition is loosing some of its lustre - apart form Edinburgh- since Christmas is also celebrated and by the time the New Year festivities take place folk are often partied out.

It is the custom to take whisky, coal and food when visiting and we have got ours ready.

Some households' still like the New Year to be brought in by the traditional dark haired person - a task that used to fall to M. until he went grey.

It is believed this custom goes back to Celtic times where the dark haired Celtic was preferred to the blonde haired Viking or Saxon.
