Day 15 L. Eirishort to Stornoway

76km, 610m ascent. Max speed 51 Kmph.
Started off to a wonderful blue sky, and warm enough without jacket. Basically we went from the east of the Isle of Lewis to the West then back to the East. The views south to the Harris mountains were stunning the whole way through to the Callanish Standing Stones. What a fabulous setting for these stones that were put there between 4000 BC and 1000 BC, really added to over this long time period.
After a lunch at the cafe visitor centre, we carried on to Greinen black houses village museum which was really interesting. Then the long pull over the peat road, a completely quiet single track road from West to East. Totally amazing views and sunshine the whole way, just a shame about the headwind!
Stornoway was very busy with the carnival, but it was wonderful to hear the Tasmanian Caledonian Pipe Band on their Europe tour. Difficult to find somewhere to eat, every thing completely booked.
