Now, as I see it......

Eclipse

This is Eclipse, or rather what is left of him 230 years after he died.  Eclipse was an unbeaten racehorse that was retired to stud by his owner when other owners refused to put up their horses to race against him.  He was so successful that it is estimated that Eclipse's DNA is present in 95% of thoroughbred horses today.

He was the centrepiece of the exhibition of paintings by George Stubbs that is currently at the Milton Keynes Gallery, and that we visited today.  Now, I have to confess that I am not a great fan of Stubbs' paintings but the exhibition has had excellent reviews in the national press and as local residents can visit free on Tuesdays it was worth a look, and I was not disappointed.
