Here's lookin' at you, kid!

A big change in the weather today. Raining from the word go, and getting windy too. I had decided to visit both the Walled Garden and the polytunnel to plant runner beans, but I was rather put off getting soaked outside . I called in anyway and the decision was made for me when I couldn't undo the padlock, in spite of checking the combination before I left. Mmm, rather odd.

So I drove on down to the tunnels by the back road, an 8 mile drive along the single track Glen Lonan, which is classified as a C road - C32. My bed was full of weeds though I did weed it thoroughly not that long ago. It took me a long time to hand weed it and I have the zinging hands to prove that there were many nettles seedlings within the weed crop! The noise from the rain and wind in the polytunnel was pretty deafening! I planted my young Oca  plants and a few runner beans and gave it all a good watering and set off home the same way. The Glen is full of Highland cattle - here's one of the babies - and sheep. I felt so sorry for the lambs, trying to keep out of the rain -  some were hiding behind Mum, some hiding behind clumps of rushes and other backing their rumps up to fence posts! They won't have seen much real rain in their short lives as this is the first  time it's rained all day for a long while. They might as well get used to it! The river was rushing, and the low-lying areas already flooded - back to normal really!

My extra is a quick shot inside the tunnel - my bed is the one in the foreground. The piles of cut plastic bottles are just being stored ready to protect my runner beans from the mice!
