New Years Eve pigs

New Years Eve in Vienna 2011. Pigs are a big thing at New Year in Austria; all kinds of pig toys and trinkets and edible ones made of marzipan. They are a symbol of good fortune and prosperity.

The twin pigs are a gift from the small hotel where we stayed, near the Opera and the Café Sacher. The marzipan pigs are on a street banner. The soft pink pig at shoulder height is watching musical highlights on the big screen at the Opera. And the really hideous skinny pigs are hanging up for sale on a market stall.

A hopeful and optimistic New Year to everyone.
