Everyone's a critic...

Had a lovely and an unlovely surprise this morning in the post, both at the same time.

A good friend of mine, knowing of my penchant for music and books, sent me a gift through Amazon: Cool Town, all about how Athens, Ga., was at the forefront of alternative music in the USA.

I opened up the book and found that the critics had been somewhat harsh about it. In fact, they had slashed the book down the spine and somehow managed to place the slashed book inside the perfectly protected box.

Brilliant, I thought. Then I thought, perhaps the book was deliberately sent slashed as some sort of coded comment about my singing voice (I have, at various times in my life, been the worst singer in Liverpool and the worst singer in Nancy, France - a feat of which I am a little chastened and only talk about when paralytic... normally, I am jober as a sudge at the moment).

Imagine that, a veiled threat about taking up singing once again. I might just have to do it. I mean, can't let the bullies win, can we? Mrs. Ottawacker will be delighted....

I'll let you know how it goes.
