Raising the fishnet

This picture of the Moomins raising their fishnet reminds me of the ONLY time when my father was really angry with me. :-)

I was in my teens and could row and handle the boat well, but had not assimilated the behavior of the fishnet when raised, so was doing it all wrong when my father tried to balance at the end of the boat raising the heavy wet net that was pulling him to the other direction...

An ordinary net used by ordinary people on their summer holidays is about 1.8 m tall, about 30 m long. with weights and cork-floats so that it stands upright in low water near the shore.  The net can be handled by one person provided that the person in the oars knows when to row when to back the oars. :-/
