Looking at the forecast temperatures for the week, I knew the ice sculptures would not last very long. The forecast highs are from +2 to +9 C. I went downtown around 8:30 am, before the snow started. There were several other photographers that had the same idea, get some photos without all the people in them.
Some of the sculptures were still covered yesterday when I was there, so I got to see all of them today. There are approximately 30 sculptures in the festival. Ice carving is an art, and you need to be creative to see the various forms in a block of ice.
I remember the year I worked in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and at Christmas time, they had sculptures made from lard at the Christmas dinner.
