Life in Sunny Dubai

2022 Birthday

(25/3/22)
I made the unusual decision to spend my birthday at EXPO 2020 this year. G only had an hour at school, so she rescheduled her lesson. We were there right at the start of the day. The main reason to visit was to support the eldest daughter of a new family we know from the SA meetings. She is part of a school choir who have been invited to sing a piece written by an Emirati composer, Nasheed Al Wasl. At the age of 10, she was performing on the Jubilee Stage. That is quite something, as this stage has had acts like Riverdance, Lea Salonga, The London Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and a host of other local and foreign stars.

Sadly, it wasn't as cool as Thursday, so it was quite uncomfortable standing out in the sun. The family really appreciated the support, and we got to chat with the parents a bit more.

As for the rest of the day... thanks to G's list (written on the back of an envelope), we stayed focused and visited Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina, Panama, Malaysia, Ireland, Hungary, Botswana, Kosovo, Ivory Coast (my extra), Mauritania, Albania, Costa Rica, Grenada, Togo, Australia, Libya, Eritrea, Dominica, Trinidad & Tobago, Cabo Verde, Vanuatu, Djibouti, Serbia, El Salvador, Niger, Tuvalu, Sao Tome & Principe, Nauru, Jamaica, Laos, Eswatini, Barbados and Lesotho. Phew! That's 34 more we've seen, leaving less than 20. We've pretty much given up on ever getting into Germany and Japan.
