Up up and away …
It feels like ages since last I flew - and everything feels different. I’m used to the baffling way airport terminals rearrange themselves every few years - partitions here, new open spaces there - but combined with the refurbishment of some areas and the obvious dilapidation of others the effect is baffling.
One problem lay in the shortage of flights available to Gatwick, which, combined withe the horror stories of cancelled flights around the time I was booking led to our having to leave home insanely early today. But the flight itself was fine, the company interesting, and the view of blue sky along the wing as cheering as ever.
Our final act before dinner and the accompanying glass of wine was to acquire our boarding cards for tomorrow, thanks to a solitary young woman in a BA uniform sitting alone in an empty checkin area in Gatwick.
But we’ve seen so many people - and barely a mask in sight. Ah well…
