Manset

This photo is not really that representative of my day, which was not spent along the shore. It's also not very indicative of my life, which does not include spending much time on boats of any sort, not to mention expensive yachts. Though I do live around some. Taking this photo involved falling into one of those conversations with somebody where you eventually feel compelled to admit you live in the area, thus revealing that everything you had just been saying before must have been artificial small talk. A bit awkward but sometimes that's how it is.

Which reminds me that today we had our first "visitor" of the season - in other words a car that came down our driveway, realized they couldn't possibly be in the right place, turned around and drove away. A clear sign the tourist season has indeed begun.

Still, I liked this photo more than any I got on my walk this morning, which took me along some trails I had never been on before. It's nice that after all the hiking I've done around here there are still new little pockets to explore. This particular network is just south of Lower Hadlock Pond, and of course whenever I go out that way I want to explore around the pond itself. Today for some reason I headed in the opposite direction, and although I wouldn't characterize the area as particularly jaw dropping, it was pleasing to discover there was more out that way than I was expecting. There was a pleasing counterpoint between some nuthatches and kinglets going on too, and I decided their calls really do complement each other nicely.
