Razorback

This morning's ramble took me over the Razorback Trail, which is a bit of a hidden gem in my opinion.

Afterwards I was washed up, breakfasted, and sitting on the porch, when I saw something new appear in the yard. Namely, a couple of people on horseback coming down the driveway. I figured they were lost and would quickly figure it out and turn around, but they proceeded to amble all the way down to the house. Just as I was prepared to be vaguely annoyed one of the riders called out my name in a cheery voice!

Now that was surprising.

Turns out it was a woman I worked with who somehow knows the family that owns the second house on our drive (the one that's only occupied when rented out weekly in the summer). Apparently they had parked their horse trailer right next door and were going to ride on the nearby fire road. Realizing she was basically in my yard already, she came on down to say hello.

I had to admit I get a bit nervous around horses, but with a little encouragement I walked up and gave Sugar a couple pats on the neck. Then I managed to back away safely without getting bitten, kicked in the head, or trampled. Which I know this sweet animal would probably never do, but there it is. I also get nervous around cows. Goats are a little sketchy as well.

In any case it made for a memorable afternoon for sure. I can't remember the last time I pet a horse, even at the county fair. It could've been decades ago.
