'Tis A Consummation Devoutly To Be Wish'd

On This Day In History
1995: U.S. space shuttle docks with Russian Mir space station

Quote Of The Day
"The American and Russian capabilities in space science and technology mesh: they interdigitate. Each is strong where the other is weak. This is a marriage made in Heaven - but one that has been surprisingly difficult to consumate."
(Carl Sagan, The Pale Blue Dot: A Vision Of The Human Future In Space.)

I took a hike to Kannō-ji at the top of Kabutoyama today. Beautiful weather, magnificent views and splendid architecture. There is no doubt that this East-West relationship is a match made in Heaven also; like Carl Sagan, I just wish the Russians and the Americans could make it work again. Sadly, the current rift looks a long way from healing.
