Windmill 'De Blauwe Reiger', Haaften

'De Blauwe Reiger' = 'The Blue Heron
The previous windmill on this spot was called The Swallow, and even The Blue, which burned down soon after it was built and was subsequently rebuilt.  After WW2, it fell into a decline because the miller preferred to bake bread than mill flour, but the next owner decided to rejuvenate the whole thing, so, in 1955, The Swallow was totally renovated, and then the municipality and windmill foundation stepped in and it became even more beautiful after they subsidized everything.  But then the owner noticed that the new vanes were more quiet, like a heron's wings, so it was renamed The Blue Heron.

You can see how high the dike is in this shot.  Teqla (yup! I've changed it again!) was parked behind the houses on the right and I had to scramble up the dike to shoot.  GPS did direct me to the dike itself, but I was not sure that was the way to go.  A narrow dike is not good for turning around if you're in a car.

Just enough sun through the clouds!  Just enough fuel in the car, too.

The rest of the day was actually rather quiet.  Had to talk calmly to myself today, reminding me that I am worth my own fight.  Supermarket errands and kitchen duties, plus some MOOCking and gaming.  A lot of time with AW in between.  The Tour was great, the tennis even better, and our women's football team ending with 1-1 against Sweden was more than good, even though I did not watch the entire 1.5 hours.  The news that Max Verstappen had managed to secure pole position for tomorrow's Grand Prix in Austria was the best.  Go get 'em, Max!
