Avenue Verte, Day Four: Dieppe to Neufchatel

The boat got in at 4am so, despite being the last off, we navigated out of Dieppe in the dark and didn’t get to see much of it – excellent mechanical bridges though. On the road out of town we waited for a boulangerie that opened at six for coffee and excellent, still warm croissants (welcome to France!) Then we got on the old railway line cycle path to Neufchatel for 25 miles of nice, flat cycling. As a result we arrived at Neufchatel pretty early, despite several abortive attempts to stop along the way (all the cafes were closed!), and ended up sitting in the park, waiting to check into our hotel. Luckily, it was a very nice hotel with a balcony and a lovely evening meal on the terrace – a cheese course too, so we got to try the very good Neufchatel cheese…
