Return to Summer

A lovely hot summer day today. I woke early and I'd done a wash and hung it outside to dry, put another wash on, and put another coat of wood stain on both sides of the gate by 8:45am. Later in the morning I had a 10 min visit from the alarm company to replace the broken door contact. I had a long conversation with the sales manager from Toyota, they've still not managed to get an answer from 'head office' about the problems I'm having with my new car. I managed to capture three of the sat nav faults on a video (sitting on my driveway) to send to 'head office' ( I set a destination from favourites (all ok at this stage), a couple of mins later get a 'accept terms and conditions notice', sat nav loses the destination set when I accept, then favourites only has two entries and neither of them are in my favourites shown earlier!) Sat in the garden reading for a while. Then did a third coat of wood stain on the gate - I think that's done the job. I've now booked my 6th Covid jab in October following an invitation by text from the surgery.

Day 897 / Day 188 of no Legal Covid Requirements in England (for my record only)
The weekly ONS infection survey of private households up to w/e 22nd Aug showed falling rates from the previous report. There's an estimated 1 in 60 with the virus in England (down); 1 in 55 in Scotland (down); 1 in 65 in Wales (down), and 1 in 50 in NI (up but uncertain). The UK Covid Alert level has been reduced to 2, the lowest it's been since the system was introduced. The UK inquiry into the handling of the Covid pandemic has started to look at decisions made by the PM and his senior advisors early in 2020. It's also been widened to include a focus on children.
