Rambling in Las Ramblas

Today was our trip into Barcelona. We first caught the bus into Sitges town center, where we purchased some ‘café con leche’ and cold ‘Spanish Tortilla’ or in other words a Spanish omelette to eat on the train into Barcelona. From there we caught the metro into the city center. We popped up from the underground right outside the most amazing . This basilica dedicated to the Holy Family started being built by Gaudi 100 years ago and it is not yet completed. But nevertheless very beautiful and unusual.

We got a table at a Café in view of the Basilica for a water and a beer, to try to absorb the grandeur of this building. I was amused by a pigeon landing on the head of a man eating nearby, trying to get a piece of whatever he was eating!

Then we took the metro to Las Ramblas, which is a huge pedestrian promenade lined with shops, restaurants and craft stalls, which connects the Plaça de Catalunya at one end to the enormous statue of Christopher Columbus pointing out to sea, surrounded by 8 lion statues at the other. This blip is of David standing in the middle of the promenade.

A fascinating day, and not too hot this time!
