12.2222ºC

Chilly, huh? I've just been preparing the bedroom to go to bed - there were clothes all over the bed after a day of changing (for Pilates, for comfy indoors, for perishing outdoors) - and noticed that our ancient thermometer read 54ºF, so as it's almost the same temperature in the radiator-free zone that is the study I'll try to be speedy with this.

It was, of course, a glorious day - frosty start, plenty of sun, no precipitation at all, calm air (just  as well - the breath of wind that we walked into and which was at my back as I took the photo was straight from the snowy hills to the north of us). I only had to wait a minute for my friend to pick me up for Pilates, but a minute was well long enough to remind me that leggings are not any defence against the cold. Pilates was strenuous - lots of stretching and strength - and left me with a huge craving for coffee in front of the fire.

Dragged myself away, however, to get on the phone and book a holiday for June - it had looked sold out when I checked online, but it was in fact the flight allocation that had gone and I was able to book extra flights. Not thinking about this one, though, now that it's fixed - we've got another one to go on first.

After lunch we went out for oddments - a prescription, a visit to the garage, a walk along to the Co-op for some pectin (I've ordered Seville oranges from the fish van). That's when I took the photo above - the clouds were this lovely peach colour, all reflected in the calm sea where, if you look carefully, there is a lone diver* just at the left edge of the pink water. That calm scene belies what was actually going on just behind me; a driver appeared to have misjudged the width of the road where it narrows to provide a crossing place; there are bollards and even a signpost, but he'd demolished both and the car ended up on its roof. Just about this time one lot of flashing lights drove off, having turned out to be the ambulance; the police remained in place, joined by council vans and a man doing something to one of the street lights - I wondered if the fallen sign was connected to the circuit for its light.

I'm in the top of the Diamond League in my Italian Duolingo just now - it's easier to make progress with the paid version, I must say. But I'm not doing any more tonight - bed beckons, even in a chilly bedroom...

*A bird, not a person! It dived shortly after I took the photo.
