Sois belle et tais-toi

Worked at the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal this afternoon. Then I picked up a felafel at L'As and ate it as I walked to the Cinéma Le Brady, on Boul de Strasbourg in the 10th arr. The theatre was sold out for this special showing of the restored copy of Delphine Seyrig's documentary "Sois belle et tais-toi", in which she interviews American, French and one Québécoise actress (the wonderfully articulate Geneviève Bujold) about their experience of sexism in the film industry in the 1970s. Perhaps most moving were the scenes with a very young Maria Schneider (seen in the still in my photo), who had been raped shortly before this was filmed on the set of Last Tango in Paris, though she didn't disclose that until after this documentary was made. An interesting discussion followed - if a bit disorganized - with Geneviève Fraisse, Nicole Fernandez Ferrer and Anne Delabre. I hope the film will get a wide release - for now it seems there are just a few special showings planned. I got home late so am back-blipping this the next morning.
