Sand Crocus

Not a crocus at all really, this is the common name for Romulea.  Today Romulea clusiana is the feature,.  It grows around the Mediterranean, often in coastal dunes, hence the common name.  The flowers are roughly the same size as the larger garden crocuses.   I showed the South African species, Romulea atranda here recently, a very different colour!

We did see some sunshine today - it opened this flower - but the afternoon turned grey and damp again, not before C and I gave the Megs a run, although we only just escaped a wetting!   Earlier I had taken Jamie to RDA up the coast at Arthog.  At that stage of the day the cold wind had me seeking shelter, my sinuses still sore.   Later, after cooking homemade pizza and lemon sponge, I was well enough to join the shanty singers where I introduced them to Roll Down .... never thought when I joined them last autumn that I'd be calling any of the songs.  All three of the shanties we rehearsed tonight went well and much fun was had :-)
