Turnstones

The turnstones will soon be off to breed in the far north to breed so are now in their spiffy breeding plumage.
I got a late bus to Birsay and walked along the shore of Birsay Bay. Small numbers of turnstones, ringed plover, dunlin, purple sandpiper etc. See extras. About five wheatears- they tend to fly around behind you and it is easy to count birds twice, but I think 5. A strong north wind brought a couple of periods of snow, but I was able to find shelter.
