Preparation

I think I'd like to play a small role in this historical event. We're about to have a new king crowned, and since my friends and their two daughters will be here on Coronation day, we decided to engage them and create a nice historical moment of our own by giving them a task which is to make a crown for everyone out of toilet paper tubes, glitter, glue, tin foil, or whatever creative ideas they come up with, they're heading towards 'Teenhood' but they do still enjoy crafting, so it was great to get a yes, and I've hung some bunting.

For food, I'm making my Scottish pasties, a cheesy bake, the crispy parmigiana carrots I tested last week, a Mediterranean orange, mint, and pomegranate salad, and my dad's old recipe for homemade fudge. Catherine said she might try her hand at the 'Coronation Quiche' and maybe bring a bottle of something nice to drink,  it was the one thing that I wasn't given an alternative for on my click and collect order today.

I'll do all of my meal prep tomorrow, so there won't be much to do on Saturday. As you know, I'm handling tasks and days one at a time at the moment. Who would have imagined that today's highlight would be hanging bunting. The patio door is open and they look lovely flapping in the breeze from the Bay. It's got me thinking of other wafting, hanging, breezy, crafty ideas.

I've started a new book today - Politics - A Survivors Guide: How to stay engaged without getting enraged. I made the purchase after feeling angry again at the government; a few nights ago, one of my oldest friends' mother was rushed to a hospital miles away from where she lives;  we can't go to our town's beautiful top notch hospital, which is right on our doorstep, because there isn't enough staff there to deal with you. Her admission happened to coincide with the nurses' strike at 8 p.m., so this poorly lady spent the majority of the afternoon and night on a trolley, in a corridor waiting for a bed and a ward. She's 86 years old and suffering from heart failure.
I was upset after listening to the radio in my car and learning that the nurses had repeatedly requested that the government visit them and talk, if they did, then they would not go on strike. Government officials did nothing except sit on their hands.  Hence the strike. It really brings it home when it's my loved ones and myself that are on the receiving end of their destruction.  It's not them or their ageing parents who are suffering, the corruption amongst them is appalling and they are so far removed from what it's like to live through this reality that they are creating.

I'm not terribly optimistic about the book but I'm giving it a go.

I think there is going to be a yoga class beginning less than a mile away, I've asked the teacher if it will be suitable for me with my prolapsed discs and she said yes, the poses can be modified and I can use a chair. I hope there's enough takers to make it happen, stretching under supervision has got to be good right.
